How Much Does a Backyard Party Cost in Toronto? 2026 Budgets

Quick answer: In Toronto, the typical backyard party cost for rentals is between $100 and $1,150, depending on how many guests you invite and whether you need a tent. For 50 seated guests under a 20 x 30 ft tent with chairs and tables, plan on about $556 at EY Party Rentals, before setup. A small 25-person party with no tent can come in around $104 if you pick up the gear yourself.

Food and drinks are the part of a party budget everyone thinks about first. The rentals are what decide whether 50 people sit down comfortably or crowd around the kitchen island. Below are real sample budgets built from our 2026 prices, so you can see what a backyard party costs before you call anyone. All prices are in Canadian dollars.

What Decides Your Backyard Party Cost?

Four things move the number more than anything else:

  • Guest count. Every guest needs a chair at $2, and every 6 to 8 guests need a 6-foot table at $10.
  • Tent or no tent. A tent is usually the biggest single line on the bill, from $70 for a 10 x 10 ft up to $500 for a 20 x 40 ft. It is also your rain plan and your shade.
  • Seated or standing. A sit-down dinner needs a chair for everyone. A party where people mingle can get by with seats for a third to half of your guests.
  • Extras. Chafing dishes, a popcorn or cotton candy machine, lights, a generator or a small stage all add to the total.

These backyard party cost estimates use our current prices and the same planning rules we use for every quote: one chair per guest plus about 5% extra, one table for every 6 to 8 guests, plus 2 to 4 working tables for food, drinks and gifts.

When tables and chairs come with a tent order, there is no extra per-item delivery charge on them. Setup is priced separately and confirmed in your quote, because it depends on your yard, the tent size and how far we are going. For more detail on tent sizes, see our tent rental cost guide.

Can You Skip the Tent to Save Money?

Yes, if the forecast looks good and your yard has some shade. Here is what a smaller party looks like without a tent:

  • 25 guests, picked up from our yard: 27 chairs ($54) and 5 tables ($50) come to about $104.
  • The same order delivered: add $2 per item for delivery, which brings it to about $168. That clears our $150 minimum for delivery orders.

The risk is the weather. Toronto summer afternoons can turn from sunny to stormy in an hour, and a hot July day with no shade wears guests out fast. If your party is longer than a couple of hours or you have older guests coming, a tent usually pays for itself. A 10 x 20 ft tent at $150 covers up to 20 people and works well as a shaded dining area even when the rest of the party is out on the grass.

Extras Worth Budgeting For

These are the add-ons people most often wish they had ordered:

  • Chafing dishes, $15 each. They keep food hot on a buffet table for hours. Most 50-person parties need 3 or 4.
  • Popcorn or cotton candy machine, $100. A cheap way to keep kids busy, and adults end up in line too. Our popcorn machine rental guide explains how it works.
  • LED tent lights, from $20. Worth it if your party runs into the evening, since backyard lighting rarely reaches the far end of a tent.
  • Generator, $50. For when the nearest outdoor outlet is too far away or you need power for a DJ.
  • Stage, $150 for a 4 x 8 ft section. Good for speeches, a DJ table or a small band.

How to Keep Your Backyard Party Cost Down

  • Lock in your guest count before you book. Ten extra chairs only cost $20, but a tent one size too big costs $100 to $150 more.
  • Choose rectangular tables. 6-foot tables are $10 and round tables are $15. For 100 guests, going rectangular saves about $50 and fits more people in less space.
  • Mix seating and standing. If your party is more of an open house than a dinner, you need fewer chairs and tables.
  • Pick up small orders yourself. Our yard is at 2229 Danforth Avenue in East York and we are open daily from 9 am to 7 pm.
  • Book early for summer weekends. Weekends from May to September fill up first, and if your tent size is gone you may have to pay for a bigger one.
  • Measure your yard first. You need a flat area at least as big as the tent, plus a little room around the edges for stakes or weights. A tent over 646 sq ft also needs a building permit in Toronto.
